Pregnant? Training doesn’t need to stop ..

At three and half months pregnant Lizzie Murray was looking for a form of regular exercise that she could continue throughout her pregnancy and through the winter. Her usual exercise, running, was proving uncomfortable so Lizzie was looking for something new.

Having found CychoCycle on Google, Lizzie tried out her first class at the beginning of September, ‘I was instantly hooked so I clearly enjoyed it! It wasn’t as serious or intimidating as I’d been expecting. I liked the fact that the instructor showed me how to set up the bike, how the heart rate monitors and gears work and what each of the numbers mean on the bike computers. I’m quite a geek at heart so I liked the instant feedback – it’s a good distraction whilst working out too.

The class itself was broken down into different sets and because I was concentrating on the instructions of each, as well as enjoying the novelty of exercising with a heart rate monitor, the hour flew by.’
Exercise has always been an important part of Lizzie’s life, ‘it is a great stress-reliever, it helps me to sleep better, boosts my mood, gives me more energy, allows me to eat guilt-free…. I could go on’. It’s also the social aspect that Lizzie enjoys as she is usually accompanied to the sessions by her husband Ollie and friend Lucy, her mum has also made an appearance! ‘Being able to go with Ollie has been great fun – it’s put a whole new spin on date night… and it’s nice to feel part of the exercise gang even whilst pregnant!’

Lizzie has attended regular sessions since her first time and was surprised when the instructors told her that with medical approval she could train right up to the birth, ‘it actually makes perfect sense. It’s a non-impact sport so great for protecting joints, it’s safe, easy to stay hydrated and with the heart rate monitors, easy to control how hard you’re working. I’ll continue to attend for as long as it feels comfortable – pregnancy for me has been about staying as active as possible whilst listening to sensible advice and adapting my exercise regime to suit my expanding bump!
